Passengers Get Out And Push Plane Stuck On Ice In Siberia

What do you do when your flight's been delayed because the plane is stuck in ice? Get out and push!

Passengers on a flight in Siberia were asked to do just that on Tuesday when temperatures dropped to -52 at the Igarka airport, according to LifeNews. And as the clip above shows, pushing a frozen plane is apparently no big deal over there -- because the passengers handled it the way most of us would handle pushing a car stuck in the mud.

But not everyone was out pushing, as there are also photos showing the effort from inside the aircraft:

The aircraft is a Tupolev Tu-134, according to Kp.ru, which said the plane eventually took off on what was an otherwise uneventful flight.

This park is perfect for especially active dogs and their humans looking to get their sweat (er, pant) on. With 160 available acres, Runyon Canyon offers an escape from the city. Dudes Waiting On Train Entertain Themselves With Epic Imaginary Ping Pong Game

Sometimes, the wait for a subway train can seem endless -- but these guys had quite the method of entertaining themselves at a station for the London Underground.

Instead of simply chatting to kill the time, the pair played a rousing game of imaginary ping pong while making convincing tongue noises to simulate the sound of the ball hitting the paddles.

Although we definitely do not recommend horsing around on subway platforms, the lads definitely get points for creativity.

Rain And Snow Could Snarl Thanksgiving Holiday Travel On East Coast

MINEOLA, N.Y. (AP) — Some Thanksgiving travelers along the East Coast headed out early because of a forecast calling for a nor'easter that will bring rain and snow.

"I was really getting nervous about getting stuck and not making it home for the holidays," said Jenna Bouffard, a Manhattan public relations executive who said she switched her bus ticket from Wednesday to Tuesday to avoid potential weather delays.

"I don't want to risk it," she said. "I'd rather be safe than sorry and if it doesn't snow then I just have an extra day at home with my family" in Uxbridge, Massachusetts.

The National Weather Service's lead forecaster said major Northeast cities will likely see moderate to heavy rain most of Wednesday. Meteorologist Andrew Orrison says higher elevation areas west of the Interstate 95 corridor could see as much as 6 to 12 inches of snow.

Although the coast would see mostly rain, the Weather Service says the storm could leave a few inches of snow before exiting the region early Thursday.

"We're not looking at major cities seeing significant snowfall," Orrison said. "It will mostly be rain for big cities and then maybe a couple of slushy inches of accumulation in cities like Washington, D.C., Philadelphia and New York City."

Although the storm will be a nor'easter, Orrison said heavy winds were not in the forecast. Conditions were expected to improve by Thursday morning.

All the major U.S. airlines were closely monitoring the situation but have not yet canceled flights. American Airlines was allowing passengers flying to some Northeast cities on Wednesday to move their flight, for free, to Tuesday or Thursday.

In Vermont, public safety officials warned the public that travel could be treacherous. Up to 16 inches of snow was forecast in some areas of the state.

7 Hints You Should Know Before Booking Another Flight

When we fly, it's absolutely imperative that we get the best possible deal, on the best possible day, on the best possible flight. (Travel ego is a very real thing, people. And we have a BIG one.)

As such, we have a few serious rules to live by when it comes to booking plane tickets. These facts and hacks will ensure you never make a flight-related misstep again... well, unless you get stuck in the aisle seat.

Price doesn't depend on the day you buy a ticket, but on the day you choose to fly.

Recent analysis from CheapAir concluded that Tuesday and Wednesday are the cheapest days to fly, but it doesn't matter which day you buy those tickets -- on average, they'll cost just $3 more if you buy them on a Sunday than if you buy them on a Wednesday. Some might argue otherwise, but this is promising news for those of us who like to pounce on good deals right when we find them. However...

Fifty-four days before your flight is the ideal time to get tickets.

While the particular day of the week that you book may not make a difference in price, the amount of lag time you have before your flight certainly does. Booking far ahead of your trip -- but not too far ahead -- will ensure the best prices, according to another CheapAir study. After running the stats on more than four million trips, it turns out 54 days before your flight is the best time to book domestic trips.

You can (almost) always cancel a flight FOR FREE within 24 hours.

If you make a booking mistake -- or just want to hold a flight without having to absolutely commit -- remember that it's a federal rule for airlines to give you a refund when you cancel within 24 hours, as long as you've booked seven days in advance.

And if you can't find the ticket you want, sweet talk a rep.

Airline reps are humans -- and if you treat them like one, you might score a hidden deal that you wouldn't find on that fancy new thing called the Internet. Welcome back to the old school.

Earlier flights DO see less delays.

No, it's not just you: Booking a flight that leaves earlier DOES mean a significantly lower risk of long delays. The rule applies until about 6 p.m. -- so experts recommend flying before 11 a.m. or after 11 p.m. to avoid potentially massive delays in both arrivals and departures.

And obviously, two specific days of the year always SUCK.

The Wednesday before and Sunday after Thanksgiving are, historically, the most expensive travel days of the entire year.

But one special, unexpected day may be surprisingly cheap.

Need a weekend getaway? Choose Friday the 13th, and you could be rewarded with cheaper ticket prices. Last June, KAYAK data reported that Friday the 13th was the cheapest day of the month to fly in the UK and the sixth-cheapest day to fly in the U.S. Bad luck? We think not.

Fernando Do Noronha Is The Closest To Paradise We're Ever Gonna Get

Turns out paradise is not lost.

It exists on Fernando do Noronha, a string of islands 220 miles off the coast of Brazil. This national marine park has waters so pristine and wildlife so precious, you're literally not allowed to swim with sunscreen on in some places. The islands are home to most of the top-rated beaches in all of Brazil and some of the world's best surfing. Some guest lodgings have private baths on their porches, and old-school dune buggies rumble toward beaches brimming with dolphins, lobsters, turtles and corals.

Oh, and did we mention there's a guest limit? Only about 400 visitors are allowed on the islands at any given time, making this sanctuary both epic and epically exclusive.

The islands of Fernando de Noronha actually "represent the peaks of a large submarine mountain system of volcanic origin," according to UNESCO. This UNESCO world heritage site is protected to the point that beaches are best described as "immaculate" and "virtually deserted."

You'll find a natural swimming pool at Praia do Atalaia and a beach called Sancho Bay, accessed only via ladder between two rocks. Visitors might dolphin-watch, trek through caves to deserted beaches or hang out with Naomi Campbell as she recovers from Fashion Week.

In any case, this place is perfect. We'll take a eucalyptus bungalow and a snorkel mask, please.

An Ocean Is Hidden Inside Earth, And We'll Take You There To See It (VIDEO)

Earth's interior is way more complicated than you probably thought -- turns out it has molten metal and hidden oceans, and parts of it are hotter than the surface of the sun.

JACQUELINE HOWARD: Hey everyone. Jacqueline Howard here. Ever wonder what it’s like inside our planet? Come with me on a subterranean tour all the way from the rocky crust where we live through the layer known as the mantle to the wild half-solid/half-liquid core of the Earth. We’ll also be stopping by a newly discovered underground ocean. Let’s go!

First stop, Earth’s crust--the solid outer layer where we live. The crust is made up of several elements, from iron to silicon to magnesium to sulfur, and its thickness ranges. The continental crust--the stuff found under land--can be up to around 50 miles thick; while the oceanic crust--the stuff under our oceans--is around four miles thick. But let’s see what lies below that.

Now we’re about 50 miles below the surface, at the uppermost region of the mantle. This layer is made up of rock that’s rich in oxygen, silicon, iron, magnesium, aluminum and it extends from here all the way down to around 1,800 miles below the surface.

The mantle is also where molten rock known as magma can form before it flows upward during volcanic eruptions--at which point the magma becomes lava. This was pretty much the picture scientists had of the mantle until earlier this year--when a vast hidden ocean of water was discovered some 400 miles beneath North America. It goes to show that the rocks down here have a pretty impressive capacity to store water. Now let’s travel a little deeper. You ready?

Here we are, 1,800 miles down, at the Earth’s outer core, which runs all the way down to around 3,000 miles. This is a layer of molten iron that surrounds Earth’s inner core. And it’s really, really hot down here. In fact, it’s between 7,200 and 9,000 degrees Fahrenheit. But if you think that’s scorching, wait until we reach the center of the Earth…

And, we made it, to around 3,000 miles down--the uppermost part of the Earth’s inner core. Like the outer core, it’s made of mostly iron but the pressure down here is so intense the stuff is solid--and it’s almost incomprehensibly hot. It’s about 11,000 degrees Fahrenheit down here--hotter than the surface of the sun! Now the actual center of the earth is about 4,000 miles down--but I’m starting to sweat so let’s skip that and head back to the surface...

Phew, back on the surface! If my virtual tour of the Earth’s interior had been a real one, it would have been a first. We all know that no one has ventured beyond Earth’s crust. But how do we know what’s down there? Scientists use waves of energy, called seismic waves, emitted by earthquakes to measure what type of material is inside Earth and where that material lies. See, as seismic waves travel through our planet, the rate in which they’re traveling -- whether they’re moving fast or slow -- reveals what exactly they’re traveling through, whether that material’s solid, liquid, or something else. Now you know.

Flight Restrictions Lifted In St. Louis Area

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Federal Aviation Administration flight restrictions in the St. Louis area have been lifted.

Lambert-St. Louis International Airport spokesman Jeff Lea said the restrictions expired at 3:30 a.m. Lea said about 10 inbound flights were canceled or diverted late Monday because of reports of gunshots fired into the sky following a grand jury's decision not to indict a white officer who fatally shot a black 18-year-old.

The FAA said Monday the restriction was meant "to provide a safe environment for law enforcement activities."

Lea said the airport expects to see full operations Tuesday. Six outbound flights were canceled Tuesday morning largely because the planes to be used didn't land last night.

For two weeks after the shooting, the FAA restricted flights on 37 square miles of airspace, including for news helicopters.

Londoners are calling Peckham "the new Shoreditch," as in the new artsy area to hang out, eat, drink, and shop. Stop by South London Gallery's No67 for a quick breakfast or brunch, then hop to Bold tendencies, a nonprofit summer art project that also has a café called Franks. However, the car park–turned art space–cum-café-cum-bar is only open from June to September, so make sure to mark your calendars for next summer.

Catacombs, Paris, France

The name of this underground network of tunnels and chambers comes from the small, legal, and public part of the vast space when in the 1780s six million Parisian skeletons were transferred from the city's overflowing cemeteries. Although a tourist attraction, a large part of these underground tunnels are home to a network of abandoned galleries, where a secret community of street artists, history buffs, and other people gather to hang out and drink. Over 170 miles of tunnels and chambers comprise the "catacombs" and has been off-limits to laypeople since 1955.

Pauly Saal, Berlin, Germany

The restaurant, located in a former Jewish girls school, shares its space with another restaurant, museum, and several galleries. The Michelin star–rated contemporary German hot spot features an outdoor patio, an art deco style dining room and bar adorned with taxidermy, chandeliers, and several enticing works of contemporary art.

New Theater, Berlin, Germany

A bar and DIY theater space, New Theater is run by artists Calla Henkel and Max Pitegoff. If you're looking for a local spot to hang out, not just for drinks, it's a great place to mingle with artists and theater lovers.

Viña Vik, Millahue, Chile

This hilltop art-filled hotel, located on an 1,000 acre vineyard, was opened by husband and wife Alex and Carrie Vik. The hotel connoisseurs and art collectors worked with architect Marcelo Daglio to create 22 suites that all house site-specific artworks. Guests can also enjoy a spa that includes treatments using the vineyard's own grapes and then get busy with hiking, biking, and horseback riding excursions.

Colomé, Colomé, Argentina

This vineyard and private museum sits on a mountainside in Argentina. The museum is the only museum dedicated solely to James Turrell. Bought in 2001 by Swiss tycoon Donald Hess, Colomé is the oldest winery in Argentina and the highest vineyard in the world.
