Animals know better than most that the best things in life really are free.
Florida resident April Kramer recently shared a sweet tribute to her late dog, Libra, by posting a photo of the pup peacefully enjoying her very last car ride. In the photo, which Kramer took right before taking Libra -- who was old and very ill -- to be put to sleep, the dog has her eyes closed, her snout out the window and is simply taking it all in.
“It was my last 30 minutes with my dog that I basically grew up with so I wanted one last picture of her before I had to let go,” Kramer told The Huffington Post. “She looked so peaceful and happy.”
Kramer took the photo in 2013, but shared it to Reddit in November, after skimming through old photos and feeling sentimental. The 25-year-old had Libra since she was 8 years old, ABC News reported, but had to put her to sleep a couple years ago because of an inoperable tumor on her lung. Kramer hopes sharing the photo can help others cope with the difficulties of losing an animal.
“Owning a dog or any pet, for that matter, you have to accept that you will outlive them. It hurts, but you have to know when to let go,” Kramer told HuffPost. “This picture shows how beautiful she was, wrinkles and all, and 'smiling' until the very end. She was always so happy and loving, I think her face says it all.”
