Watch Canadian Passports Completely Transform Under Blacklight

United States passports may be ridiculously powerful, but we'd dare say they're not as ridiculously cool as Canada's.

As of mid-2013, Canadian passports have new page designs with UV-reactive inks, which appear normal to the naked eye but emit a dazzling glow when you put them under blacklight. The old Canadian passport had a similar feature, but the newer ones offer a superiorly stunning lineup of scenes from Canadian history, as one Imgur user reminded us this week. 

Security is the purpose, says Jessica Seguin, a spokesperson for Citizenship and Immigration Canada. The new passports' UV-sensitive designs "serve to further secure the visa pages against counterfeiting," she told HuffPost. And they look darn good doing it:

Make sure your passport is in an acceptable condition to travel, and avoid finicky passport expiration dates
