These Popular Cocktails Have More Sugar Than A Reese's Peanut Butter Cup

There's no wrong way to eat a Reese's peanut butter cup, except maybe when you eat them six at a time. That's a lot of sugar to consume at once -- 63 grams, to be exact, exceeding the American Heart Association's recommended intake of no more than 45 grams per day.

All that sugar can damage your heart health, waistline and even mental health. But a little over six Reese's worth of sugar is just what you're ingesting when you down a sweet piƱa colada. Obviously, the tropical drink is not the only booze that boasts a bunch of sugar in liquid form. The average rum and coke, for instance, packs the sugar equivalent of nearly one and a half Reese's in a single serving.

Drinking these saccharine concoctions is an even worse way to ingest sugar than by chocolate-covered peanut butter cup. Sugar's sweetness may help the liquor go down, making you drink more and exacerbating your hangover. Headaches are common in the aftermath.

We know it can be tough to stay smart about the amount of alcohol, calories and sugar you're drinking. The next time you imbibe, try thinking about it in terms of peanut butter cups -- and a really rough morning to come.
