What Coffee Shops Were Like Before Starbucks Took Over The World

There's a certain comfort in going to a store like Starbucks -- you know exactly what you'll get, every time. Before the company took over seemingly every city street corner, however, there were other options for getting your caffeine fix. Each coffee shop had its own distinct character (and varying quality, as far as a cup of joe goes). Here's a look back at the days when pumpkin spice was something you made and added to pies, not coffee beverages.
